Imagery plays such an important role in your marketing strategy. They help paint the picture for your customers, without them being there and enticing them to want to learn more about your business and what you have to offer. But make no mistake, it’s not as easy as just snapping a photo of a product and calling it good. There are a few industry tips and tricks to help you capture the essence of your product and produce a high-quality image, worth showing your potential customers!
Here are 4 easy steps to follow when taking product images for your marketing strategy:
1. Take Images from Different Perspectives
Experiment with angles, even if you’re capturing the same thing in every photo, angles are an easy way to switch up how it’s featured.
Also, try playing with negative space. Leave a gap above, below, or even beside your product, creating space for text or images to be added later on.
2. Turn on the Grid Lines
There is a great feature (on most smartphones) when you open your camera app, you can add grid lines to your phone screen. This feature will allow you to line up the subject to the center of your screen. Giving the images a more professional look.
3. Try Portrait Mode
Portrait mode (on an iPhone) is a feature that applies a depth-of-field effect, keeping your subject (people, pets, buildings) sharp while creating a seamlessly blurred foreground and background. Giving the object you’re featuring, a more crisp look.
4. Lighting, Lighting, Lighting
One of the easiest ways to make your smartphone images look better is to pay attention to the lighting. If you’re able to, try to have the sun behind you, facing the subject you’re capturing. With the natural light hitting the subject, it’ll look crisper and brighter. If the light is behind the subject, you will get this natural shadow cast, making your image look dark and grainy.
I hope this helps you in your photography journey! Remember, practice makes perfect. Try and snap as many photos as you can, and you’ll naturally get better each time!
**Pro tip** – for every 15 photos you take, there are maybe 3-5 usable ones. So the more pictures you have = the more options you’ll be able to choose from when featuring your product.
