I often have clients ask me, “Why is my content not getting the attention it deserves?” or “Why isn’t my following growing as fast as other accounts?”. The short answer is, you cannot compare your success online to others. You cannot control what is happening on other accounts. But what you can control is the content and consistency that you post on yours.
I’ve come up with four basic questions to ask yourself when you’re looking at your social media growth:
- HOW OFTEN ARE YOU POSTING?
The title says it all… CONSISTENCY IS KEY! Creating trust with your following online is vital to building a strong and loyal audience. When you make a post, you are showing up for your followers. It is telling your followers that you’re committed to showing up for them, you are passionate about what you are posting and they can trust your industry expertise. - IS THE ALGORITHM PUSHING YOUR CONTENT?
To piggy back off the last question – the algorithm can’t push content that’s not there. Any social media platform is going to favor a business page or creator who is posting regularly. The algorithm will notice that you’re posting consistently and push your content to new reach audiences. - HAVE YOU BUILT A RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR AUDIENCE?
If all you’re posting is content that benefits you, can your audience really trust you? The age old “80% – 20%” rule applies to just about most things – including social media. Show your audience the value you can bring them through your social channels. Equally as important, you need to engage with your audience. Comment, like, follow, repost, it’s all an important piece to the puzzle. Give recognition to the accounts that take the time to engage with your content. - WHAT CONTENT ARE YOU POSTING?
Are you making content that speaks to your target audience? If you take a look at your insights, you’ll see what content is reaching the largest audience, what has the most engagement and what content just isn’t performing well. Take a deep dive and pivot your energy into making content that reaches a larger audience gets the most engagement. Don’t put time and money into content that isn’t performing.
This just touches the tip of the iceberg when it comes to growth on social media. There are many aspects that go into properly growing an account from the ground up. But one thing you’ll find in every strategy: Consistency.
It’s important to remember that not every post is going to go viral. Not every video is going to reach a massive audience, and thats okay! Slow and steady wins the race with social media growth. Show up everyday (or at least 3-5x a week) and you’ll see the growth happen organically!
