Our Home🏡

3–5 minutes

Let’s talk about a few rooms in our house today…

We bought in the summer of 2019. It’s a four bedroom, two bath house on half an acre of land. Truly a dream house for me. It was built in the 1950’s, but has been updated and added onto over the years. The previous owners did a great job of making it modern by adding the salt box on the back which added two bedrooms, a second full bathroom, a large deck and a two-door garage. But also kept the charm and quaintness of the 50’s with built-ins in the kitchen, french doors in the living room and a huge bay window in the front. A perfect combination of charming farmhouse meets modern comfort. That being said, there are things about the house we knew we immediately wanted to change upon buying.

The kitchen: all the appliances were white and dated. First step was to change out the over-the-range microwave to stainless steal, followed by a new stainless steal oven/ stove. Both of those changes happened a little faster than we anticipated because they both ended up dying within three months of us living here. Even though it was sooner than we planned, we’re happy with how it changed the feel of the kitchen. We still want to swap out the fridge and dishwasher to match the new stainless steal appliances. And give the space a much needed fresh coat of paint. Thinking a neutral gray, like our living room. Highly recommend Agreeable Gray by Sherman Williams. The perfect cool toned neutral color that matches everything.

Downstairs bathroom: some of you may have already watched on my Instagram, but I kind of “accidentally” started tearing the wallpaper off my walls haha. It’s just a bad wallpaper job, and it’s time for it to go.

As you can see from the video, just not my aesthetic. I’m excited to finish taking down the rest of the paper, and giving this small bathroom a fresh face. I’m thinking a nice off-white or cream color to brighten it up. It’s a small bathroom, so we need to keep it light and airy to really open up the space. I want to remove the dated medicine cabinet behind the toilet, and install some open shelving and to finish it off get a new curtain rod for the shower. Small changes will make the world of a difference.

Last room in the house for this post…

The garage: we have a two door garage with an upstairs for extra storage. Although the idea of having the extra storage sounds nice in theory, I do try to keep our belongings to a minimum and only to items that we use regularly. If I have so much that it won’t fit in the basement or the first floor of the garage… it’s time to purge. That being said, I’d ideally like to convert the top of the garage into a home gym.

I have a hard time getting motivated to work out at home. When I pop on a YouTube video, or decide to break out the exercise bands and weights. The entire time I’m just thinking about all the things that I could be doing otherwise – dishes, laundry, vacuuming, etc.. I loved going to the gym, but with being a SAHM/ WFHM (work from home Mom), that doesn’t leave a lot of wiggle room for “me” time, or extra spending money. My husband also enjoys going to the gym, but he works 55-60 hours a week as is. So having the equipment here at home is just the best way for us to stay active and fit. Having it out in the garage is a good way to feel detached from the house, enough so I won’t constantly be thinking about the chores that need to be finished. Plus we’ll be able to say that we have a home gym, cool right?

All this to be said, I’ll be documenting our journey along the way. Through blog posts on here, and through videos and images on my Instagram (seriously, just go give me a follow). I’m excited with my new found “free” time, to begin making small changes to our home to make it fit perfect for our growing family! Hope you decide to follow along 😊👏
